Letter Carrier Erling Olauson didn’t pay much attention to the girl’s scream he heard while delivering mail recently in a Waterville, ME, neighborhood.
But then he heard a man yelling, telling the girl to get her mom to call 911.
Olauson rushed toward the ruckus and found the man in a garage pinned underneath a car.
The postal employee grabbed a nearby jack and freed the man, who was treated for broken ribs and cuts.
“It’s fortunate for the community that our carriers are on the streets and willing to do this sort of thing more than the public is aware of,” said Postmaster Jeremie Stevens.
