A typical day at the Whittier, NC, Post Office was recently interrupted by an atypical customer problem: A woman came into the office and said she couldn’t remember how to get home.
Retail Associate Susan Thayer printed out directions and went over them verbally, too. But at closing time, Thayer found the woman in the parking lot, still lost and now distraught.
With more closing tasks to do, the postal employee brought the customer inside for a while, then led her home personally.
Postmaster Christy Mathis said the customer and her relatives were grateful that Thayer went out of her way to make sure the woman made it home safely.
