James Stephenson’s drive to work took a dramatic detour recently.
The Hoxie, KS, retail associate witnessed a two-car collision that left five people injured — including three children.
Stephenson drew on his training as a former certified nursing assistant to assess the victims and move the children away from the vehicle. He also calmed their mother and assured her that help was on the way.
He remained on the scene until emergency responders cut the drivers out of the vehicles and transported the victims to a hospital.
“James recently joined the Postal Service and has already received comments from other people concerning his professionalism,” Hoxie Postmaster Jerry White said. “He has a good sense of humor and is willing to go the extra mile to help out.”
