The Postal Service’s national scanning score rose during the latest benchmark, an achievement that will help the organization grow its package business, USPS leaders say.
The national composite scanning score increased almost a full percentage point during fiscal 2016’s third quarter (April 1-June 30), compared to one year earlier.
The score helps measure the percentage of packages and mail that are scanned as they move through the postal network. Scans are posted online, helping customers track their packages and other mail.
“Full visibility is essential to the Postal Service’s ability to compete for new business,” said PMG Megan J. Brennan. “Providing timely, accurate scans allows our customers to track their packages and mail and strengthens our reputation as a world-class delivery organization.”
Western was the only area that beat the national third-quarter score. Several districts exceeded the national number, beginning with Dakotas.
Chief Operating Officer Dave Williams said the Postal Service’s third-quarter scanning success also helps improve network management.
“Scanning benefits managers and employees, providing us with actionable, real-time data that helps us strengthen service at every level,” he said.
USPS also improved Parcel Select, Standard Mail and Priority Mail on-time service performance during the quarter.
