The Postal Service has released Songbirds in Snow stamps that show four birds brightening cold winter days.
The stamps depict the golden-crowned kinglet, cedar waxwing, northern cardinal and red-breasted nuthatch. Each bird sits on a snowy branch against a wintery backdrop.
The popular northern cardinal is the state bird for Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia.
“The Postal Service has a long tradition of putting birds on stamps to celebrate and raise awareness of these amazing creatures. And the four stamps … are truly beautiful works of art,” said Sales VP Cliff Rucker, who dedicated the stamps at an American Philatelic Society event in Portland, OR.
USPS will sell the stamps in booklets of 20, with each of the four designs repeated five times.
