A package delivery recently brought San Antonio, TX, Letter Carrier Guillermo “Willie” Guzman to a customer’s home at a moment when she desperately needed help.
The woman had fallen in her back yard and wasn’t wearing her emergency call device. Suffering from a broken hand and a fractured pelvis, she couldn’t move.
Guzman was the first person to hear the woman’s cries for help. He called 911 and the woman’s daughter, and stayed with the woman until emergency personnel arrived.
The community conveyed a message to Guzman in a neighborhood newsletter article about the incident: “Thank you, Willie, for this extra mile and the many others you have gone for our neighbors in the past!”
The woman is recovering.
