Pomfret Center, CT, Rural Carrier Associate Patricia Durell was delivering mail recently when she noticed a downed tree on fire in the middle of the road.
The road was a dead end, so Durell knew some residents might be trapped if the fire spread.
She called 911 and waited for firefighters to arrive and extinguish the blaze.
“By doing this, she has potentially saved a lot of heartache for many people,” said Officer in Charge Mary Spelman. “The residents in the neighborhood will never know how close they were to catastrophe.”
