The Postal Service has released a stamp to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Indiana’s statehood.
The stamp features an image of the sun setting over cornfields near photographer Michael Matti’s childhood home in Milford, IN.
“This stamp belongs to everyone. It belongs to history enthusiasts, art admirers, nature photographers, and those who are simply captivated by Michael Matti’s sunset imagery,” said Great Lakes Area VP Jacqueline Krage Strako, who dedicated the stamp June 7 at the statehouse in Indianapolis.
Matti, an adventure photographer, snapped the image in 2012. “This has to be one of the highlights of my career,” he said.
Indiana became the 19th addition to the union in December 1816. The state is celebrating its bicentennial throughout the year.
The stamp dedication ceremony also featured Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, who said the stamp “will tell of Indiana’s unique beauty as it’s sent to untold locations around the country and around the world.”
The stamps are available at Post Offices and usps.com. The Postal Service’s news release has more information.
