The Postal Service has released Colorful Celebrations, a set of 20 stamps that showcase geometric shapes, flowers and birds.
The designs are based on a Mexican art form known as “papel picado,” which is Spanish for “pierced paper.” Although the designs suggest cut paper, they actually were created digitally.
Pricing and Costing VP Sharon Owens praised the “celebratory patterns” during a June 3 dedication ceremony at the World Stamp Show in New York City.
The stamps will be sold only in booklets of 20. Each booklet includes 10 designs that appear twice.
Colorful Celebrations were the final stamps released at the show, which began Memorial Day weekend. The other stamp releases included National Parks, Pluto — Explored! and Honoring Extraordinary Heroism: The Service Cross Medals.
USPS also announced several new products at the show, including the USPS StampApp, a souvenir book and the 2015 eGuide to U.S. Stamps.
