The Music Icons: Elvis Presley stamp has proven a hit with fans, who are singing its praises on social media and at Post Offices across the nation.
“People have been asking for them all day. … [W]e’ve sold quite a bit,” Columbia, TN, Postmaster John Rumbaugh told The Daily Herald newspaper last week.
Meanwhile, almost 800 fans camped overnight outside Graceland — Presley’s Memphis, TN, home — to purchase the stamp at the Aug. 12 dedication ceremony, the local NBC station reported.
The release recalls the enthusiasm surrounding the 1993 Elvis Presley stamp, which became one of the most popular in history.
“When the first Elvis stamp came out I got one as a surprise from my husband,” one fan wrote on the USPS Facebook page. “This time I figure since I have 11 grandchildren, I best buy enough to go around as they are all Elvis fans!”
Admirers also have taken to Instagram and Twitter to share images of the stamp using the hashtag #ElvisForever.
Kristen Taekman, a star of Bravo’s “Real Housewives” franchise, tweeted about the stamp to her 79,500 followers Aug. 12: “Today’s the day! New @ElvisPresley stamp to launch! See you at the @USPS!!”
