Fans are flocking to Post Offices to buy the new Elvis Presley stamp — but how many can say they’ve purchased the stamp from someone named after him?
“Customers often take a look at my name tag and happily say, ‘Oh yeah, Elvis is in the house,” said Elvis Jimenez, a retail associate at the Franklin Square, NY, Post Office.
The iconic singer’s fans routinely share stories about visits to Graceland and memories of his music.
Jimenez shares his stories too, including seeing “Blue Hawaii” and “Viva Las Vegas” courtesy of his older sister, who persuaded their parents to name him after her favorite performer.
The Music Icons: Elvis Presley stamp was dedicated Aug. 12 in Memphis, TN. The Postal Service also is selling “Elvis Presley Forever,” a CD featuring 18 hits.
Presley previously appeared on a 1993 stamp that became one of the most popular in history.
“Customers are thrilled that we are issuing another tribute to [Presley],” Jimenez said.
