Life imitated art recently when the Coast Guard re-created the image depicted on its new stamp.
The re-creation took place off the New York/New Jersey coastline.
An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter flew near the cutter Eagle sailing ship — just like it does on the stamp, which is based on an original painting by aviation artist William Phillips.
The photograph was taken by David Lau, a U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary member.
The Postal Service dedicated the stamp Aug. 4 to mark the Coast Guard’s 225th anniversary, which is being celebrated throughout the year.
The stamp can be purchased online and at Post Offices nationwide.
