The Postal Service’s top 27 districts have reached scanning scores of 97 percent or higher for the first time.
Portland, with a 97.95 percent rating, ranks first as of May 6. Dakotas (97.71 percent) finished second, followed by Northern New England (97.64 percent).
The other pacesetters: Greater Boston, Sacramento, Northern Virginia, Alabama, San Diego, Rio Grande, Oklahoma, Albany, Atlanta, Central Plains, Greater Indiana, Greater South Carolina, Gulf Atlantic, Lakeland, Mid-Carolinas, Northland, Salt Lake City, Seattle, SunCoast, Hawkeye, Louisiana, Sierra Coastal, Mid-America and Western New York.
Among the areas, Western leads with a 97.15 percent rating. Capital Metro (96.95 percent) was second and Southern (96.87 percent) finished third.
The national scanning score for the week ending May 1 was 96.76 percent, up from 96.51 one week earlier.
Scanning allows customers to track their packages and other mail. It also helps the Postal Service improve efficiency and network management.
