Virden, IL, Rural Carrier James Walch became concerned when he noticed a customer hadn’t collected mail in several days. He knocked on the front door of the house, heard a faint response and entered. He found a man lying on the floor unable to reach his oxygen mask. Walch placed the mask on the man, called 911 and stayed with him until help arrived. The man was taken to a hospital where he recovered. His family thanked Walch for his diligence.
