It pays to know your customers — something North Charleston, SC, Letter Carrier Mark Conway has been reminded of more than once.
Conway recently noticed mail piling up at a sick customer’s home and knocked on the door to check on him. The man was dazed and dehydrated, so Conway gave him water and called 911.
The man received the medical attention he needed, prompting Mayor R. Keith Summey to declare a day in Conway’s honor.
This is the latest example of Conway helping a sick customer. In 2011, a tip from Conway led police to an 85-year-old woman who had fallen and was incapacitated.
“Mark is no longer just a mail carrier. He is an institution in our neighborhoods … making a noticeable difference through his contributions to and compassion for the resident of North Charleston,” Summey wrote.
